Meet Akua:
Hi everyone! I'm Akua, and I am what you call a K through JD (meaning that I went to law school right after undergrad) and a double anteater. I am also a first-generation law student and the youngest daughter of two Ghanaian immigrants. I love to bake and binge-watch my comfort shows (A Different World, One Tree Hill, etc.) on top of keeping up with some current TV series.
Beyond the classroom, I have been able to network with attorneys, participate in pro bono projects, and create friendships. Before entering law school, I had no clue what areas of law I was interested in and what a law student would be. Because of my experience outside of the classroom, I have gradually decided what I want to do in the future.
UC Irvine School of Law (“UCI Law”) is meant to be a collaborative and welcoming community. I chose UCI Law because it was already like home for me. Even though law school is different from undergrad, I knew that I would be supported and equipped with the tools to thrive. Each step of the way, there’s faculty, staff, or students here to help you. Whether it be through things related to your personal life, the library, specific courses, career choices, or ways to study. UCI Law is built with people who genuinely want to help others or be of service to each other during a time in our educational careers that may seem difficult at first.
I know that the law school application process is hard and scary, but you can do it!
