Meet Trevor:
Hi, my name is Trevor Scott, and I am currently a first-year law student here at UC Irvine School of Law!
Deciding to attend law school was not an obvious decision for me. I was very lost in undergraduate, bouncing between ideas of what I wanted to do with my life, what career would make me happy, and how I could support myself and my family best. I had toyed around with the idea of being an attorney, mainly through competing in a mock trial program at my high school, but I never committed to the idea. Once I finished my degree, I decided to take a sabbatical to contemplate what I wanted to do. I decided to try and gain perspectives on what a legal career would entail. I connected with a local attorney in the Inland Empire, who ended up giving me my first job in the legal field. From there, I grew to understand the day-to-day activities of an attorney and what the job was really like.
What helped me the most from this experience were the attorneys who worked in the office. I would ask question after question about law school, the career, their loves, and their hates within the profession. With many of my questions answered and my fears assuaged, I felt ready to apply to law school. I received my acceptance from UC Irvine in December 2023, and it has been an unforgettable experience since.
If I were to give one piece of advice to prospective students, it would be this: reach out and talk to as many people in this field as you can. Send them an email. Give them a call. You may not get a response from everyone, but I promise you, some will respond and would be more than happy to talk to you about their experiences.
