Meet Skylar:

I chose UC Irvine for its dedication to public interest and its collaborative environment. As a first-generation immigrant and a queer woman of color, it is important for me to choose a law school that is open and supportive. Judging by my experience at UC Irvine Law so far, I can safely say I made the right decision. I have met many mentors and friends who have selflessly helped me through many difficult moments. My professors are nothing but intelligent and encouraging, always willing to make accommodations for students when they are having a hard time.

Before law school, I was heavily involved in community-building volunteering projects. There, I found my passion in helping minorities, especially children and immigrants. My passion for public service inspired me to go to law school, so I can equip myself with hard skills and knowledge to continue giving back to the community in tangible and practical ways. That's why I am so thankful that I can continue volunteering with the ample pro bono opportunities at UC Irvine Law. Last semester, I was able to help formerly incarcerated individuals expunge their records. This semester, I get to help domestic violence victims apply for temporary restraining orders and also help the Children's Law Center with dependency research. Engaging in pro bono projects allowed me to remember why I came to law school and inspired me to keep going when school gets tough.

Another great thing about UC Irvine Law is its prime location. My two puppies have been LOVING the beaches, hikes, and parks in Orange County. You also get to try a variety of food from different cultures from restaurants nearby. UC Irvine is also probably the only school that allows you to go to Disneyland pretty much right after school! One of my fondest memories in 1L year was going to Disneyland with my friends right after our Contracts final. Even though law school can get tough, the friends, mentors, and precious memories I've made in this school made it so worth it.
