Irvine, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2022) — The Graduate Tax Program at the University of California, Irvine School of Law will host the fourth annual UCI Law / A. Lavar Taylor Tax Symposium March 21, 2022. Sponsored by the Law Offices of A. Lavar Taylor, the theme of this year’s symposium is The Global Tax Deal and the Changing International Tax Order. The purpose of this full-day online symposium is to launch an in-depth discussion on the “global tax deal” adopting the OECD two-pillar framework, agreed to by 137 countries representing nearly 95% of the world's GDP.

This event will feature keynote speaker, Rebecca Kysar, Counselor in the Office for Tax Policy at the U.S. Treasury Department. In her current role, Kysar co-led global negotiations for the United States, striking a deal among 137 countries to remake the international tax system for the first time in a century. Since 2018, she has been a Professor of Law at Fordham University where she is currently on leave. Her academic research focuses on tax policy, international tax, and the tax legislative and budget processes. She also served on the Biden Presidential Transition as an ad hoc adviser to the tax policy and Treasury agency review teams.

“We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to hear directly from Prof. Kysar, who played a leading role in designing, and bringing to fruition, one of the most significant advancements ever in international tax policy,” said Omri Marian, professor of law and academic director, graduate tax program.

Symposium organizers are soliciting questions for Kysar in advance of the keynote presentation. Only registrants to the event may submit questions. All questions should be submitted no later than Monday, March 14 via the registration link.

In addition to Kysar keynote address, the symposium will feature presentations by leading tax practitioners, industry entrepreneurs, researchers and government officials.

This event is approved for 9-hours of Continuing Legal Education Credit by the State Bar of California. UCI Law is a State Bar-approved MCLE provider. A full conference schedule will be made available early March.
