Summer Program
Each summer, from mid-May through mid-July, UCI Law in NYC offers students a unique introduction to legal practice and life in New York City. The summer program is open to all current and incoming UCI Law J.D. and LL.M. students and is organized and moderated by Professor Joshua Blank, a member of the UCI Law faculty.
NYC Roundtables
Throughout the summer program, participating students meet with members of the New York legal and business communities, including judges, public interest lawyers, major law firm partners, business leaders, public defenders, prosecutors and human rights lawyers. Past roundtable speakers have included:
- James Cole, Jr., Founder and CEO, The Jasco Group, LLC, and Former Delegated Deputy Secretary and General Counsel at U.S. Department of Education
- The Hon. Jeh Johnson, former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and Partner, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP
- David Kahan, Partner, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz
- Pamela Wasserstein, CEO of New York Media / President of Vox Media

NYC Activities
Every other week during the summer, students are invited to join in activities throughout the city that involve major legal issues or themes. Activities may include*:
- New York Stock Exchange & Federal Reserve Bank
- The Tenement Museum
- The High Line
- The New-York Historical Society
- Broadway Night!
Networking
Throughout the summer, participating students are encouraged to take advantage of networking and mentorship opportunities:
- UCI Law in NYC Happy Hours, gatherings of UCI Law alumni and members of the faculty, including Dean Song Richardson
- Anteaters in Law, meetings with lawyers who attended UCI as undergraduates
- NYC Mentors, the opportunity for current students to be paired with established practitioners in NYC
Registration and Details
- Participants: Current and incoming UCI Law J.D. and LL.M. students. UCI Law alumni are welcome to participate in the NYC Activities, described above.
- Dates: Mid-May to mid-July.
