Dear Class of 2021,
I hope your final exams are going well as this year draws to a close. I wanted to send some final details regarding the virtual commencement ceremony taking place on Saturday, May 8, as well as the photo opportunity on May 7 and May 10. Please review and let me know if you have any questions!
Virtual Ceremony
- When: The livestream will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and last approximately 90 minutes
- Where: The livestream can be accessed on our Commencement webpage. There is no password required to view the livestream.

- LL.M. Student Speaker: Claire Anderson
- Grad Tax Student Speaker: Youjia Xie
- Faculty Speaker: Prof. Swethaa S. Ballakrishnen
- The commencement address will be given by Congresswoman Katie Porter
- Watch Party: We wanted to make this day more interactive for our law school community (students, faculty & staff) so you are invited to watch along with your peers in a Zoom Watch Party. Please note, this is separate from the livestream link above, which can be accessed by anyone. In order to access the Watch Party and interact with your peers, you will need to sign in to a Zoom meeting. We will send out the Zoom meeting invite about 15 minutes prior to the start of the program. Please look out for an email from Dean Jennah Jones with those details.
Photo Opportunity
- When: May 7 or May 10. The deadline to sign up for a time slot is May 3. If you have not done so already and would like to participate, please go to the UCI Law Students Canvas calendar to sign up.
- Where: UCI Law Courtyard
- Guest Update: We are pleased to announce that each student can bring up to two guests. All graduates and guests must wear face coverings at all times, although graduates may remove their mask briefly for the photo. Graduates and their guests will be spaced at least six feet from other attendees at all times. Per campus guidelines, all guests should be fully vaccinated. If guests can not be fully vaccinated, they should receive a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to coming on campus. Any student or guest traveling or visiting from outside California should self-quarantine per public health guidelines. Graduates and guests will also need to pass a temperature check upon arrival.
- Please arrive dressed in regalia no earlier than 15 minutes before your appointment time and check in at the table in the courtyard.
Regalia
- Thank you for being so patient regarding regalia updates. Regalia is shipping out tomorrow, so please be on the lookout for your packages to arrive early next week.
Main Campus Graduate Stage Moment
- As mentioned before, you are all welcome to participate in the main campus grad stage moment, which will be offered over the course of several days from June 13 - 17. More details can be found here: https://commencement.uci.edu/
Warm regards,

Dear Class of 2021,
I am writing to send a quick update on your StageClip submission and regalia deliveries. We are aiming to ship regalia out the last week of April, in time for your in-person photo opportunity and the May 8 virtual ceremony. For your StageClip photo and video submissions, we have created a fun regalia Instagram lens that you can use if you like.
I will be sending more details on the in-person photo opportunity later this week, including a link to sign-up for timeslots. We will be offering this opportunity on two different days, May 7 and May 10. Stay tuned for more!
In the meantime, please reach out with any questions.
Warm Regards,
Jillian

Dear Class of 2021,
I hope this email finds you all well. Today you will be receiving an email from StageClip regarding the submission of your photo, video and/or short message for the commencement slideshow. You will have a couple weeks to submit, with a deadline of Friday, April 23. Please check your spam folder in case the email doesn’t reach your inbox.
As always, please reach out to me should you have any questions.
Warm regards,
Jillian

Dear Class of 2021,
I am writing with some more details regarding the Commencement photo opportunity we are planning for you. In order to firm up our plans, we would like you to fill out a quick survey [Link available in email] so we can gauge how many students will participate and what dates would be best. The deadline for this survey is Monday, April 5.
Please note, this is an opportunity for graduates only and no guests will be allowed at this time based on the campus' executive directive on invited visitors/guests. We will require that you sign up for a specific time slot and estimate the process will take no longer than 30 minutes.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Warm regards,
Jillian

Dear Class of 2021,
I wanted to provide you with some additional updates regarding Commencement. Although plans are subject to change based on local and state health guidelines, this is what we are currently working on:
- Virtual Ceremony
- The main ceremony will remain fully virtual. You will be receiving some communication in the coming weeks regarding the graduate slideshow portion, where you can include a short message, photo and/or video. Please stay tuned for more details. The ceremony will be streamed on May 8 at 9:30 a.m. for friends and family.
- In-person Photo Opportunity (pending local health guidelines and conditions)
- In addition to the virtual ceremony, we are working on plans for an in-person photo opportunity for our graduates. This will be for graduates only and each graduate will need to sign up for a specific time slot to get their photo taken in regalia on campus. As we approach May and have a better idea of local guidelines, we will be in touch with further details. At this time, no guests will be permitted due to the campus’ executive directive for invited visitors/guests. However, if this should change, we will be sure to keep you updated.
- Main Campus Graduate Stage Moment
- You may have seen the email that went out on Tuesday, March 16, regarding the plans for main campus Commencement. Should they be able to move forward with the Student Stage Moment experience, this will be extended to our graduates as well. I’ve attached the email here for reference.
I know that many of you have questions regarding regalia and when it will be received. I do not have a specific date just yet, but when I have a better idea, I will be in touch with further details.
Thank you for your patience as we work on providing you with a meaningful celebration of your amazing accomplishments during this difficult time. We can’t wait to celebrate you on May 8!
Please reach out should you have any questions.
Warm regards,
Jillian
