UCI Law Welcomes New J.D., LL.M. and Graduate Tax Program Students
IRVINE, Calif. (August 20, 2020) — The University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law) is thrilled to welcome the Class of 2023, under the direction of Dean and Chancellor’s Professor of Law L. Song Richardson. As of the first day of instruction, the incoming J.D. class consisted of 148 students, with 72 percent identifying as California residents. In addition, 24 percent of the Class of 2023 are the first in their families to graduate from college, 63 percent are female and 53 percent identify as students of color.
“It is an honor to welcome the Class of 2023 to the UCI Law community – especially since this is the first class I am welcoming in my capacity as the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Financial Services,” said Cristina Gapasin Tortal.
UCI Law also welcomes three new full-time faculty members this year as well as a new full-time adjunct professor and notable visiting faculty members:
- Cindy Thomas Archer, Professor of Lawyering Skills
- Sameer Ashar, Clinical Professor of Law
- Dana Lee, Assistant Professor of Law and Mohannad and Rana Malas Scholar in Islamic Legal Studies
- Rebecca K. Lee, Visiting Professor of Law
- Blake Morant, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law
- Susan Seager, Adjunct Professor of Law
The UCI Law LL.M. program welcomes 15 students from nine countries – the second largest class in four years of the program. The Graduate Tax Program welcomes 13 students, coming from universities like the University of Florida, Boston College, Georgetown, the University of South Carolina, and many more.
