Enrollment Checklist

Welcome, new Anteaters! To help make your transition into UCI Law as seamless as possible, we have created a list of important tasks to be completed prior to your arrival. Please make sure to check your spam/junk folders for responses. We recommend adding "admissions@law.uci.edu" as a safe sender to ensure you receive all our communications. New enrollment tasks will be added to this checklist periodically.

While we will notify you when a new task has been added, we encourage you to check this list regularly.

Required

All students must complete these steps prior to Orientation. Please pay extra attention to these requirements and adhere to all deadlines.

All UCI Law students must activate their UCInetID. Your UCInetID is your Single Sign-on (SSO) and electronic identification used for many online services at the University of California, Irvine such as ZotPortal, and UCI Webmail. It is for your individual use only and you should not share your password with anyone else. For current UCI undergraduate students your UCInetID should already active.

Deadline: As soon as possible.

Contact: Any questions regarding you UCInetID can be directed to the UCI Office of Information Technology

All new students who have submitted their SIR, must also complete the Statement of Legal Residence (SLR). The University of California determines residency based on information you provide on the SLR.

Deadline: July 6, 2024

Contact: Information about residency can be found through the UCI Registrar

The UCI Campus ID Card gives Anteaters access to essential and important services like meal plans, online academic resources, library services and more. Plus, your photo from your ID card is what is used on photo rosters for faculty and in the student directory.

You will not be issued a physical card, and instead you will receive a digital version to use around campus. Please upload a photo, and have it approved, before you show up for orientation. You can view instructions here. Make sure you send in your photo early in case it gets denied. Reviewing the guidelines will greatly increase your chances of having your photo approved the first time. You will need a smartphone in order to use your mobile student ID. If you do not have one of these, please email cardservices@uci.edu or visit their FAQ page

You will need your digital ID card to check in for Orientation on August 12 and there is a 1-2 week processing time, so please upload your photo by the deadline.

Deadline: August 1, 2024. To allow the card office enough time to process in order to have your digital ID for Orientation, you must upload by Thursday, August 1st.

Contact: Questions about how to upload your photo should be directed to UCI Auxiliary Services

All students who applied with an undergraduate transcript that did not yet show their degree conferral, must submit their official undergraduate transcript, including degree and date of conferral, to the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) for inclusion in your CAS Report.

Deadline: Submit official transcript to LSAC and unofficial transcript to UCI Law Office of Admissions by Monday, July 29, 2024.

Please refer to the Financing Your Legal Education section of the Admitted Student website for all tasks and information related to tuition and financial aid, including but not limited to accepting your UCI Law Scholarship, applying for loans, and financing your tuition bill.

Deadline. As soon as posisble. Please refer to the Financial Checklist for specific deadlines.

Contact: Questions can be directed to Student Financial Services at finaid@law.uci.edu.

If Applicable

Students who experience all types of disabilities are eligible for support services. UCI’s Disability Services Center (DSC) provides a variety of services and accommodations. If you will be requesting accommodations while at UCI Law, please begin the process over the summer so that we can provide you with the proper accommodations from the very beginning of the school year.

To request services or accommodations for the upcoming academic year, you must register with the Disability Services Center. To begin this process, please use this website (https://dsc.uci.edu/register/) and click on “incoming graduate students” to fill out the online intake form. You must have your UCInetID and provide documentation verifying your disability. Detailed information about necessary documentation can be found on DSC’s web site.  After you submit the intake form, a DSC staff member will contact you within 5 business days to make an appointment with the Law School Disability Counselor.

Deadline: As soon as possible.

Contact: If you have any questions, please contact the DSC at dsc@uci.edu  or 949-824-7494. You may also contact Dean Kyle Jones.

If you are interested in parking on the UCI campus, you may purchase a parking permit via myCommute website. Note that you must activate your UCInetID before you can purchase a permit. Parking permits are also available at the Parking Office, located above the UCI Police Department, across the street from the Law School.

If you purchase your parking pass early, you can avoid paying the $13 daily parking fee during Orientation week. Please bring a form of picture identification with you (we recommend your UCI Student ID) when picking up your parking pass. Parking pass rates vary depending on your specific needs.

Deadline: This is optional and based on your needs but if you plan to park on campus this year, we recommend doing this as soon as possible.

Contact: If you have any questions about parking at UCI, please contact UCI’s Department of Transportation and Distribution Services.

All UCI Law students are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) and charged a health insurance fee as part of registration at UC Irvine. If you are currently covered by major medial health insurance that is comparable to UC SHIP, you may request to waive out of the plan.

To waive out of the UC Irvine sponsored health insurance plan for 2024-2025, you must submit a request online during the open waiver period, for the Fall 2024 semester. If approved, the waiver is in effect for the current term and the remainder of the academic year. A new waiver request must be submitted at the beginning of each academic year.

Deadline: The deadline to submit a health insurance waiver is July 22, 2024.

Contact: For questions about the UC Student Health Insurance Plan or how to waive it, please contact the UCI Student Health Center

UCI allows a student to submit a preferred name that will appear in place of the student's legal name in certain University-related records. Electing to use a preferred name will not change your legal name.  Preferred names appear in the campus directory, class rosters, and on the UCI Photo ID Card.  Your preferred name will be used on transcripts, diplomas, and any legal document produced by the University.

If you have a current UCInetID, you may set your preferred name via StudentAccess. Requests for a preferred name may be submitted only by the student. Students who do not want their preferred name on their diplomas will need remove their preferred name in StudentAccess prior to commencement.

Deadline: If you want to submit a preferred name, we suggest you do so before uploading your photo for your ID card.

Contact: If you have any questions, please email registrar@law.uci.edu

We will provide lockers for all students. These lockers are located in Room 404 on the fourth floor of MPAA and Room 311 on the third floor of MPAA. You must provide your own combination lock. Lockers are for the storage of books, school supplies and personal items. Long term food storage is not allowed. The Law School cannot be responsible for your locker contents or for stolen items. The School of Law reserves the right to open any locker in the event of an emergency, health related issues, or at the request of law enforcement officials. Such searches may occur without notice to the locker's user. Storage of inappropriate or dangerous materials is not permitted.

International Students

In addition to the tasks above, international students should familiarize themselves with these next steps.

The UCI International Center provides expert immigration services, including SEVIS compliance, visa documentation and related advising.

Students who are not U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents or have a visa status that allows them to study in the U.S., must request a visa document from the UCI International Center before they begin your studies.

The SEVIS fee is paid by F-1 students to cover the cost for the operation of SEVIS. This is a government fee that is paid directly to the U.S. government through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program [SEVP].  The fee is not a UCI fee.

Once you have paid your SEVIS fee, you can contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to schedule an appointment for an F1 or J1 student visa. USA.gov is a good source for finding a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. The consular officer will determine whether you qualify for the visa. If the visa is issued, you may need to pay an additional visa issuance reciprocity fee.
