Financing Your Legal Education
The Office of Student Financial Services works with students to identify sources of financial support and develop realistic budgets to meet their goals. In addition to managing the delivery of all types of financial aid funds, the office offers law students financial services in the form of loan counseling, advice on maintaining financial aid eligibility, debt management workshops, web-based tools to manage an education loan portfolio, and Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP).
Financial Aid Counseling
All admitted students are welcome to set up an appointment with the Student Financial Services Office staff. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss questions regarding obtaining California residency, loans, housing, debt management, budgeting, and Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP). If you have any questions about scholarship reconsideration, please email finaid@law.uci.edu. To formally request reconsideration, please utilize the scholarship reconsideration portal. Scholarship reconsiderations will not be discussed during your financial aid meeting.

Scholarship Reconsideration
If you are seeking reconsideration of your current UC Irvine Law Scholarship from the Scholarship Committee, please submit your request through the Scholarship Reconsideration portal. The portal will become available on March 3, 2025.
Accepting your current scholarship offer by the deadline will not preclude you from a scholarship reconsideration.
Financial Aid Checklist
To help make your transition into UC Irvine Law as seamless as possible, we have created a list of important financial aid tasks to be completed prior to your arrival. Please make sure to check your spam/junk folders for responses. We recommend adding finaid@law.uci.edu as a safe sender to ensure you receive all of our communications.
If you were offered a UC Irvine Law Scholarship, you must formally accept it by the date indicated in your scholarship offer. It is in your best interest to submit this form as soon as possible. Failure to accept the scholarship by the deadline will result in forfeiture of our scholarship offer. If you do not accept our scholarship offer, your offer of admission to the law school still stands.
We understand that financial aid is an integral part of your decision. Law school is an important investment; funding for a law degree requires preparation and planning.
To ensure that the law school remains financially accessible, UC Irvine Law offers a limited number of small need-based grants to admitted students with extraordinary financial need. Qualifying financial need is defined as a student who has experienced extreme financial hardship with extremely limited financial resources. Students who wish to be considered for these need-based grants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 2 application deadline. Students not eligible to file a FAFSA and qualify for the AB540 fee exemption can submit the California Dream Application. UC Irvine Law's Federal School Code is 001314.
By completing the FAFSA, students may receive a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan up to $20,500 and a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. If eligible, a UC Irvine Law Scholarship and a need-based grant could cover the remaining cost of attendance. Students will receive their aid offer award by May 1. Please refer to our Financial Aid Process website for additional information on the application and awarding process.
The Office of Student Financial Services encourages students to search for additional UC Irvine Scholarships and external scholarship opportunities. The UC Irvine Law Office of Student Financial Services regularly updates the list of outside agency scholarships with specific application procedures, criteria, and deadlines.
